Acolman, México, San Agustín

Acolman, México, San Agustín - The Sixteenth Century: Age of the Convento
A prototypical Augustinian foundation, San Agustín is one of the great early conventos of New Spain. Though its architect is unknown it has been surmised that he was European and probably Spanish since Acolman’s design is the most European of all early New Spain convento models. Finished by 1571, San Agustín’s façade with elegant alfíz is a work of magnificent plateresque, elaborate yet well contained and proportioned.
