“Acolman is notable for having two cloisters. We know that in 1580 it contained a grammar school, twenty-four friars, and five priests to minister to the Indians. The earlier cloister is of rough rubble masonry, barrel-vaulted with buttresses at the lower level and roofed with wood above. The arches below are relatively flat, and rectangular piers have been reconstructed on the second story.” (Early, James.
